Greetings Festivarians!!
This time of year Planet Bluegrass is basically overflowing with news. Telluride NightGrass, Festival of the Mabon, more Folks performers, even a special radio appearance. Where to begin?
Just a few hours after the single-day Telluride Bluegrass lineup announcement last week, we started getting calls about the NightGrass schedule. For you new festivarians, NightGrass is the series of late-night shows held in indoor venues in Telluride and Mountain Village during the festival. This year's schedule includes two shows from Yonder Mountain String Band, an evening with Nickel Creek's Chris Thile, an intimate performance from John Prine, and other memorable shows. Tickets, including a limited number of all-venue passes, go on-sale at 8am MDT, Wednesday, April 26 from bluegrass.com or 800-624-2422 / 303-823-0848. The complete schedule is below.
Our Celtic-flavored Festival of the Mabon just received a boost of "hypno-folkadelic ambient trad," as the Scottish sextet Shooglenifty will be making their Planet Bluegrass debut on September 23. These guys tear it up with a fiery blend of traditional Celtic tunes and modern dance grooves dubbed "acid-croft."
The Folks Festival lineup continues to blossom... 17-year-old phenom Sonya Kitchell brings her eloquent blend of folk, jazz, and R&B; hick-funk supergroup Assembly of Dust unleash the spirited jam; and one of Canada's most celebrated and popular roots bands of all-time, Blue Rodeo, remind us once again why they have been decorated with an amazing 7 Juno (Canadian Grammy) Awards.
Finally, If you're near a radio or computer on Wednesday morning, April 19, tune in to Denver station KCUV 102.3fm / kcuvradio.com. Craig Ferguson will be spinning tunes and talking about this year's festivals as the celebrity guest in the G. Brown Palace from 8-9am MDT.
Best,
The Folks on Planet Bluegrass
