Greetings Festivarians!!
It's always refreshing for us to watch the transformation of the Planet Bluegrass Ranch these first few weeks of August. Where the ranch was a hot pickin' bluegrass metropolis in July, today it is the spiritual center of songwriting inspiration - contemplative, introspective, and unbelievably rich with creativity.
Last Sunday afternoon 150 Song School students and faculty arrived on the ranch - guitars, keyboards, and stories in tow - from all over the world. As pairs of songwriters reconnect with cherished friends and share their latest works under the canopy of trees by the river, we move a day closer to Ani, Kristofferson, Tweedy, and so many others on our main stage...
Last week's feature article about the RockyGrass Academy in the Christian Science Monitor describes Planet Bluegrass as "idyllic: a parklike historic ranch, along the arboreal banks of the St. Vrain, set beneath terra-cotta sandstone cliffs." Add to that the unseasonably mild 80-degree weather that's predicted for this weekend and we've got the setting for an unforgettable weekend of song.
Join us for the 16th annual Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, August 18-20. Single-day tickets, 3-day festival passes, and camping are all still available. We will continue selling advance tickets thru 5pm MDT, Wednesday, August 16. Call us at 800-624-2422 or order online at bluegrass.com. After that, tickets will only be available at the festival box office in Lyons (while they last).
The complete main stage and workshop schedule (including individual times) is now official. Of course, you should expect a surprise 'tweener or two. And lots of kid's fun in the family tent. And festivation and relaxation in the St. Vrain river. And jamming with new friends in the campgrounds. And the inspiration to write your own song - no, make that: complete album - on the way home Monday morning. See you this weekend in Lyons.
Best,
The Folks on Planet Bluegrass

August 18-20
Lyons, Colorado
Our quest to live up to the high standards set by this year's Telluride and RockyGrass will be realized this weekend in grand style.
The 16th annual summit of the song represents one of our freshest, most diverse lineups in years. Almost a quarter of this year's performers are from outside the U.S., while two-thirds of this year's performers will be making their Folks Fest debuts. And oh, what debuts these will be...
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy returns to his songwriter roots with a solo acoustic set - in troubadour-style with just harmonica and guitar. Amos Lee has written over 50 songs in the past few months in preparation for his second soulful album for Blue Note Records. Expect some of these tunes to debut on Friday at Folks. Young pop-jazzer Sonya Kitchell recently shared the stage with her heroes Herbie Hancock and Susan Tedeschi. You'll be counting her among one of your new heroes after her Friday afternoon set. Industrial re-percussionist Billy Jonas wowed the entire Song School with his opening set Monday morning - every faculty member included. Wait til you hear him on the main stage on Friday morning.
If you recognize one of the headliners, don't miss their Folks set. But if you don't recognize their name - then by all means don't miss them. So much talent. So much inspiration. So much to spend the next year telling your friends about. Learn more...
